Soldering bit cleaner WDC enables you to clean your soldering bits dry unlike conventional cleaning with a damp sponge. Dry cleaning avoids the temperature shock caused by pulling the hot soldering bit through a damp sponge. This temperature shock can cause micro cracks in the thin protective layer of the bit, thereby significantly reducing the bit’s life. Also, dry cleaning has the advantage that the bit does not become completely free from the solder during the cleaning process when using a lead-free solder. The difference in surface tension between lead-free and leaded solders makes the bit too clean when using sponges. The result is that the wettable surface of the bit quickly oxidises.
